There are two walking tracks in the Qilan forest recreational area: Divine tree walking track and Forest bath walking track. There are numerous species of birds and butterflies within the Divine tree area. The area is an important inhabitant for wild species. Come to visit Qilan, you will relax your soul in the mid of forest bath.
It takes about one hour to go to Qilan divine tree park from Qilan. It is at the 12th mile of forest road NO. 100. The ancient cypress zone here last a total of 1968 meters; visiting it will take around two hours. For people who want to conserve energy, they can enter the shorter route of 902 meters from the Simaqian giant tree; the shorter route will take around 50 minutes.
Attention:
(1) There is a limit on the number of people to enter the Divine tree park each day. Please make appointment early.
(2) The Divine tree park is rated as the restricted forest zone, food and pets are prohibited.
The sea area within 2 to 3 nautical miles radius of Turtle Island is shallow and flat. Great number of fish communities congregate here; which makes Turtle island one the three biggest fishing grounds around Taiwan. It is the primary location for whale watching; the number of whale and dolphin species that shows up in this area is up to 17. There are Spinner dolphin, Bottle nose dolphin, Pygmy killer whale and False killer whale…etc. They will constantly jump above water and play with the passing boats. It is a magnificent scene to watch tons of whales and dolphins leaping in the sea and the beautiful Turtle Island at the same time.
The best season for whale watching is between April to September. Don’t let the opportunity go by if you are interested.

Atayal aboriginal culture hall is the first one that uses aboriginal mother language as the theme. The culture hall is built in Datong Township; which serves the purpose of conserving the artifacts and cultures of Atayal aboriginals. It brings people to the attention of appreciating Atayal culture and display the beautiful Oceania architecture style. It represents the spirit of the Atayal.

Yulan tea” is the flagship tea in Yilan area. The producing region is located at Yulan village in Datong Township. The tea not only has special fragrance but you can also use it to make special tea meals which induce people’s appetite. There is tea jello, tea baked eggs…etc, they are so delicious; which will make you drool and want to have them again after tasting them. Natural activities here are also another option for you to experience, such as tea picking, Hakka Lei Tea (tea mashing) and tea making…etc
Taiping Mountain stands within Datong Township in Yilan County with an elevation of 1950 meters. The mountain is surrounded by clouds and fogs all year long, the “Taiping cloud sea” is regarded as one of the top 12 prodigies in Taiwan and top 8 scenes in Lanyang. When the day is sunny, you can observe various peaks such as: Tao mountain, Dabashenglin, Nanhu mountain…etc from a distance. Taiping Mountain contains forests covered by wide range of climates from cold temperate zone to subtropical zone and warm temperate zone. It was one of the three biggest timberlands in Taiwan; it’s the rich source of Taiwan yellow cedar, cypress and hemlock.
You can enter the Taiwan Hemlock walking track with a length of 1.7 kilometers from the Taiping Mountain primitive forest park. Clouds and fogs hang over the track all year long, walking in it gives you a misperception of time. It feels like stepping back into the ancient forest, with moss and lichen climb all over the tree trunks; the Chinese Usnea hangs all over the branches which looks like the cape of the tree fairy. The explanation sign on the side of the track use “Ancient spirit” to describe the Hemlock walking track which is probably induced by the fact that there is moss all over that gives people a feeling of ancient. Mountains in Taiwan at the mid elevation are also in the cloud and fog zone. There is usually great rain and humidity, frost and sometimes snow in the winter. Those climate conditions form the fog forest in Taiping Mountain; therefore produces the ancient forest looks flourishing with moss and Chinese Usnea.
Jiuzhize (Turtledove swamp) hot spring, enjoy the open-air forest hot spring SPA.
Jiuzhize hot spring is located among green mountain valleys in Tuchang village in Datong Township. It was originally the starting point of Taiping Mountain Zexu ropeway at an elevation of 500 meters. It is an important spot of Taiping Mountain recreational area, and also a place with rich ecological resource. Everywhere you look, there are many precious species in the sky, among the trees and swimming in the rivers.
